Reframing a Public Narrative under Scrutiny

The situation
A large land development company approached Rascon Media Group after experiencing sustained negative media attention. Public perception of the organization was being shaped almost entirely by critical coverage, with little accurate or contextual information available directly from the company itself.
At the time, the organization was highly visible but not clearly understood.
The approach
Rascon Media Group approached the situation through a newsroom lens.
We evaluated the company’s digital presence and media coverage as a reporter would — examining headlines, sourcing, and identifying gaps in information and narrative patterns. To better understand the issue, we analyzed existing coverage and drafted a news-style story based solely on publicly available information.
That exercise revealed a critical insight: the company was not actively sharing its own story, leaving journalists, stakeholders, and the public with only one side of the narrative.
The challenge
The core issue was not a single article or outlet, but an imbalance in the information ecosystem. From a journalist’s perspective, nearly all publicly available material about the company came from negative reporting.
As a result, perception was being defined externally, without meaningful input from the organization itself.
The work
RMG partnered with the organization to rebalance the narrative through clarity, transparency, and consistent communication.
Our work included:
- Monitoring and assessing ongoing media coverage
- Strategic response guidance for media inquiries
- Message development to address recurring questions and misconceptions
- Creation of a clear, accessible FAQ for a newly redesigned website
- Launch and management of a YouTube channel — a primary platform where negative content was gaining traction
- Production of original video content highlighting real people, real experiences, and accurate information
Rather than reacting to individual stories, the focus was on building a credible body of content that could withstand scrutiny over time.
The outcome
By proactively sharing accurate information and human-centered stories, the organization began to regain control of how it was understood.
RMG helped the company:
- Shift from reactive to proactive communication
- Provide journalists and the public with accessible, factual context
- Build a digital presence that reflected reality rather than rumor
- Strengthen trust through consistency and transparency
The result is not a quick fix, but a more stable foundation for reputation and long-term credibility.

With plans to build a large-scale destination in the greater Houston area, the company needed early visibility, clear messaging, and media attention to accurately introduce the concept and build credibility with the public.
A water technology company with a promising solution for public water systems had struggled for years to gain traction.
Despite the potential impact of its product, the company was unable to clearly explain what it did, why it mattered, or who it was for.
